How Many Noodles Are In A Box Of Spaghetti?

Eating messy food is more entertaining, and spaghetti might be the messiest of all. So pasta fan Conrad B. We had no idea either, so here in the Bedtime Math test kitchen we counted up how many noodles are in a box of spaghetti. Since many types of pasta are sold in 1-pound boxes, the more noodles you need to make 1 pound of pasta the skinnier the noodles. We tallied spaghetti, linguine that was a little thicker, and capellini, which is Italian for “little hairs.” As a result, we have 384 noodles in 16 ounces (or one pound) because 24 linguine noodles weigh one ounce. The thinner spaghetti had a weight of 576 noodles per pound or 36 per ounce. If you want to slurp a lot, angel hair is the way to go. The super-thin capellini had a whopping 71 noodles in an ounce, or 1,136 noodles per pound.

Little ones: It is recommended that you only twirl three spaghetti noodles at a time on your fork to avoid creating a blob that is too large to bite. Bonus: If you always eat all 3 off each forkful, can you end up eating 14 noodles if you eat 3 noodles at a time and count how many you have after 3 bites.

Bonus: If a box of angel hair has 1,200 noodles and you eat 1/2 the box yourself, how many 3-noodle fork twirls will give you 1 ounce (24 noodles) of linguine?

The possibilities are endless: If 24 linguine noodles weigh an ounce, but 71 angel hair weighs the same, then how many times heavier is a linguine noodle, and what close number would be “perfect”?

Little kids: 9 noodles. Bonus: No, as you’ll eat 12 or 15 because 14 isn’t a nice neat multiple of 3.

The sky’s the limit: About 3 times as heavy. If there were 72 angel hair in an ounce, it would be exactly three times as much.
