NFL fans tuning into CBS were completely stunned after Dak Prescott began eating a turkey leg during a game.
The Dallas Cowboys quarterback tucked into a leg of meat on the sideline while his team were playing the Washington Commanders.
Prescott had just thrown his fourth touchdown pass of the game in the fourth quarter when the incident happened.
He headed over to the red Salvation Army kettle behind one of the end zones and began digging.
The quarterback emerged with a turkey leg, and the CBS broadcast captured him chomping on it.
A third noted: “The game isn’t even over yet and Dak Prescott is eating a Turkey leg.”
CBS Sports reporter Tracy Wolfson cleared up the mystery of how Prescott got the turkey leg.
She explained on the game broadcast that it was tight end Jake Ferguson’s idea to put a turkey leg in the kettle.
And Prescott decided to go digging once he threw his fourth touchdown pass of the night to Kavontae Turpin.
The Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Day game against the Washington Commanders has gone viral, thanks to an unorthodox touchdown celebration involving turkey legs. I’ll give you the inside scoop on how this hilarious tradition came about and who was chowing down on turkey legs after scoring.
As a huge Cowboys fan myself, I was glued to the TV during their 45-10 blowout victory The game was full of great performances, but the moment everyone is talking about came late in the fourth quarter
After receiver/returner KaVontae Turpin caught a 34-yard touchdown from Dak Prescott, he immediately pulled a foiled turkey leg out of the Salvation Army donation kettle behind the end zone. Kleptomaniac jokes aside, this celebration was orchestrated by the Cowboys organization.
Earlier in the day, the team placed turkey legs in each of the four on-field kettles, hoping for a chance to use them if the game was firmly in hand. According to Prescott, the players devised the idea earlier in the week but had to get approval from head coach Mike McCarthy first.
As you might expect, team owner Jerry Jones was all for the turkey leg tomfoolery. He said after the game, “This maybe one of the top, maybe right there at the top days I’ve ever had with the Cowboys.” High praise considering Jones has presided over three Super Bowl wins!
The turkey leg tradition actually started last year when some Cowboys stars used the kettles as makeshift dining tables. But Turpin took it to the next level by stashing a leg in advance and taking a big juicy bite on live TV. The team wasn’t penalized since there were no foreign objects, only delicious poultry!
This was Turpin’s first NFL touchdown and Thanksgiving game, so it’s very fitting that he got to partake in this hilarious new Cowboys ritual. After scoring three times against the Giants in Week 12, the speedy receiver picked up right where he left off on the holiday. Always thinking, Turpin joked that he hid a leg in each kettle “just in case” he scored four touchdowns.
Turpin wasn’t the only Cowboy enjoying some gridiron grub on Thanksgiving. Quarterback Dak Prescott also munched on a leg after tossing his fourth TD of the day. And apparently cornerback DaRon Bland had free reign to snack at will, taking a few bites of turkey leg from the sideline.
Considering Bland already made history earlier in the game, sealing the win with his fifth pick-six of the year, no one would dare come between that man and his well-deserved feast!
This wacky celebration put a fun twist on the usual football traditions. Unlike the Lions and their stale Thanksgiving routines, the creative Cowboys made the holiday truly memorable for players and fans alike. The team is calling it one of their best wins ever.
While PETA might not approve of playing around with meat on the field, this moment created incredible joy and laughter across the country. Dak Prescott said it best – “If we can’t have fun, what are we doing? This is a kid’s game.”
Moments like the turkey leg spree are what sports are all about. Creating lifelong memories and bringing people together, if only for a few hours. Kudos to the Cowboys for putting fun first and giving us an all-time great Thanksgiving football celebration!
