During Turkey’s early history, the town was originally called Springville. But as the story goes, a large flock of wild turkeys moved into the area at one point. The townspeople saw this as a sign and decided to rename their community after the birds.

Another fun fact is the Turkey post office has received mail intended for the country of Turkey before. Around Thanksgiving especially, the post office got letters from stamp collectors requesting holiday-themed Turkey postmarks on their mail. So the famous name has led to some postal mix-ups over the years!
